Use each guess to test an idea.

Start with different letters

A word like CRANE tests five different letters. Try repeated letters later, when you have a reason to suspect them.

Use zeros

If GHOST scores 0, the secret word contains none of those letters. You can still use these letters in guesses to test other letters.

Compare similar guesses

If CRANE scores 2 and CRATE scores 1, N is in the secret and T is not. The other four letters are the same, so N and T explain the difference.

Keep positions open

A matching letter can go anywhere in the word. Highlight letters you think are in the word, then use Shuffle to try different orders.

Check repeated letters

PAPER against APPLE scores 4: two Ps, one A, and one E. Extra copies count only if the secret has them too.

Change your notes when needed

Your manual marks are ideas. Undo a mark if later clues prove it wrong. Letters ruled out by a zero stay crossed out.
